Dear Friend of Reader To Reader,

I hope you enjoy this newsletter about the Reader To Reader Book Project. Our success is very much due to your donations of books, postage money, and most of all your generous spirit. Please forward this newsletter and help us spread the word.

This newsletter I want to share some letters with you that speak to the impact that the Reader To Reader Book Project has. I think that they show the enthusiastic response that greets each book shipment.

Dear David,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all those great novels. We received 8 boxes today! The variety was WONDERFUL. I gave one box to 8 of my 20 home room teachers. So, 12 more teachers are now BEGGING for future boxes.

I have CC'd this to two other teachers and we have already surveyed the 7th and 8th graders to see what types of books and authors they would like to have. The 8th grade class is so grateful for all the new books!

Thank you so much for the books and magazines.

Sincerely,

Judy H. Manning, Principal

Here is a note from Bowe Elementary in Chicopee, Massachusetts, which joined our program last month.

Hello to all the Reader To Reader folks,

I am writing to thank you for sending all those wonderful books to our school. I am the preschool teacher at Bowe Elementary in Chicopee, Massachusetts and my students always love it when I put out new books! I am so pleased that your books will become part of our permanent collection, and I am so glad our school is on your list to receive donations. Most of the books in my classroom are ones that I have bought with my own money. Over 80% of our students are on free lunch and I know that they don’t own any books.

You are amazing. Thank you again for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Margaret Rooks

One of the best donations we received recently was over 1,000 brand new copies of the children’s book “Aesock's Travels: Lights, Camera, Edison!/Los Viajes de Aesock: ¡Luz, Cámara, Edison!”

This wonderful children’s book is the first in a historical fiction series for grades 2-4 and is in both English and Spanish. We have high demand for children’s books in Spanish and “Aesock's Travels” has been flying out the door. It’s a fantastic tale that stretches the imagination and has an uplifting message. Here is a plot summary:

“Benjamin is devastated when his science project fails in front of his second grade class -- but help is on the way from a mysterious creature with an affinity for attracting lost socks: Aesock. Join Benjamin, Olivia and Aesock as they travel back in time to meet Thomas Edison as a seven-year-old boy plagued by a hearing deficit and struggling with self-doubt in school.”

“Aesock's Travels” is the product of the fertile imagination (and generous heart) of author Gretchen McMasters.

We put a lot of emphasis on building school library and classroom resources, but that’s not all we do, and “Aesock” recently came to the rescue. Read on.

Hi David,

I am writing in the hope that you might be able to find some more books for us. We have been using books as prizes for good attendance, good attitude, and participation in Math and Reading Challenges. We have gone through hundreds of books so far this year. I am running low at this point with another two months to go. The children love to receive books as prizes!

Thanks for your consideration of this request.

So, how did “Aesock's Travels” go over?

David,

We received the books today! They are just terrific! I cannot thank you enough. Our kids don't receive these kind of books! I can't wait till they see them in the PRIZE BOX!

You are the best!

We give our deepest thanks to Gretchen McMasters for making this donation possible.

Our volunteers are hard at work! Books are being sorted, boxes are being packed, and more delights are headed out the door.

That's all for now.

Until next month,

Sincerely,
