CollegeKnowledge

CollegeKnowledge is a comprehensive college counseling program that provides disadvantaged Native American students with the best and most accurate information about all forms of higher education and access to experts in the field. Only 65% of Native students receive a high school diploma. Worse, only 10% will earn a college degree. This is less than half the national average. Reader to Reader provides an on-site coordinator on the Navajo Nation to facilitate all programs related to this goal. Over 43% of Navajos live under the poverty line. Empowering Navajo youth through education will develop a new generation of strong leaders who will improve the condition of their people.

We blend together personalized mentoring and in-depth programming to expand students' understanding of college and careers. Mentoring gives high school students the opportunity to communicate directly with college students to receive feedback and guidance every step of the way. The goal is to add the human element to a process that now has lots of web-based information but lacks the personal connection to help students unfamiliar with the terminology and procedures to successfully navigate the process.
